There is a particular sort of joy that comes with the arrival of a master whose work is as instantly recognisable as it is subversive. This February, Gardens by the Bay transforms into a living gallery for Botero in Singapore, the largest and most ambitious presentation of the late Colombian maestro’s work ever staged in the region. Spanning over 130 original pieces, the exhibition is a Southeast Asian exclusive that serves as the official launch of the new IMBA Theatre.

This curated selection of paintings is currently on display as part of the Heart of Volume gallery at the IMBA Theatre until 22 February 2026. The series offers a profound look into the late Fernando Botero’s mastery of exaggerated form and vibrant narrative.

The curation is split into three distinct experiences that allow us to engage with “Boterismo” on multiple levels. Heart of Volume, located at the IMBA Theatre at 18 Marina Gardens Drive, offers a rare, intimate look at 118 paintings and drawings drawn directly from the Botero family collection. This indoor gallery is open daily from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, with the current run concluding on 22 February 2026. These works trace a seventy year career, revealing the meticulous draughtsmanship behind those famous, rounded silhouettes.

For those who prefer their art within a natural landscape, Garden Grandeur brings ten monumental bronze sculptures to the Silver Garden and the grounds of the IMBA Theatre. These striking figures, including the celebrated “Woman on Horse” and “The Dancers”, are currently available for public viewing and will remain in situ until 18 May 2026. Positioned to create a dialogue with the sleek architecture of the Supertrees, this outdoor segment is accessible daily from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Finally, A Life in Fullness introduces the world’s first immersive Botero experience, scheduled to run from 6 March until 18 May 2026 at the IMBA Theatre. Narrated by the artist’s son, Fernando Botero Zea, this forty five minute audiovisual journey provides a poignant look at the man behind the curves, exploring his roles as a father, a rebel, and a visionary. It is a landmark cultural moment that proves art is at its best when it is both monumental and deeply human.
